Golden milk

This extra special Ayurvedic drink is perfect for soothing and calming or just simply enjoying whenever you feel like a literal hug-in-a-mug. The spices added to make golden milk are easy on the digestion and full of anti-inflammatory goodness. The addition of black pepper shouldn’t be skipped - not only does it profess its own health benefits, it helps us to absorb turmeric too.


Ingredients

  • 250ml (1 cup) almond or oat milk

  • 3 cardamom pods, crushed lightly

  • ½ tsp ground turmeric or 1/2 inch grated fresh ginger

  • 1 inch piece of grated fresh ginger, or 1 tsp ground ginger

  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon

  • ¼ tsp freshly ground black pepper

  • jaggery or golden sugar to taste (best avoided if Kapha aggravated).


Pour the milk of your choice along with 60ml or 1/4 cup of water into a pan and add the remaining ingredients. Gently simmer for 10-25 minutes before straining through a sieve into your favourite mug. Sweeten according to your own taste.
